April 21

Thompson Class News Week of Apr. 21
Parents this is another testing week for our upper grades, because of this we won’t be allowing parents to bring lunches up for students on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week.  Our canned food drive is still going on.  We have about a dozen items so far. It will continue until this Friday.  We are working for extra bounce house time during Play day.  We won last year with over 100 items. We are running low on tissue if you happen to come across some we would be more than happy to take it off your hands.  I will be sending home the rubric for our Weather projects due next week.  Look for report cards on Thursday.

This week in our learning
Reading: Texas Fairy tales
Math: multiplication
Writing: responding to reading
Science: things that roll
Social Studies: Our world

Librarian Week

We wanted to take the time to tell our librarian Mrs. Sadler how special we think she is.  So, we wrote a book about her.

Notice the troll is Justin BEAVER the kids were adamant about this.

Can you tell we've been working on moral/theme?  They now think all stories need one!  Love that!

From the Thompson family, have an amazing Easter!

New phone

Ok, so I am about the least technologically savvy person at our school.  I got a new phone for Christmas, and I am just now learning how to share all the pics I've taken (thanks Mrs. Wuest!)  I lucked out Mrs. Wuest just happened to get the same new phone that I did.  (Bet she never makes that mistake again! HA!)  Anyways, here's a look at some of our learning over the last several months.

Here we are writing down the butterfly life cycle.  The butterflies were the most pleasant insect we worked with.  Milkweed bugs anyone?

Can you tell things get a little bit excitable in class sometimes?   These kids sure do keep me entertained.
This was from our adjective posters, we were given a picture and had to use describing words about it.  Can you tell we have a tough, mean tall cowboy?

This was about the only non blurry photo I took during our field trip.  I need to work on my skills y'all.

I love it when the kids get into a lesson, I love it more when they get into it and work well together :)

Thanks for taking the time to look at some of the things we've been doing in class.  Now that I know how to get these pics on the blog, I'll do it much more often!  Check back on us soon!

April Fools!

Did your kids mention how diabolical their teacher is?  All week last week we talked about the Lirpa Loof bird and how rare it was and it only comes to North Texas around the first few weeks of April.  We talked about the rare qualities it has, what it looks like , what it eats and on and on.  Friday I told them we were going to seek out a Lirpa Loof and were they excited!

To get a Lirpa Loof to come to you, you must hold a carrot over your head and sing quietly Lirpa Loof Lirpa Loof!   They all surrounded the trees near the playground.
But we were having no luck!  Lirpa Loof? Lirpa Loof? I told the kids this happened last year and we found out if you said lirpa loof backwards, it sometimes helped.

Lirpa-----April
Loof------Fool!
It took until we got back to class, but the kids finally realized their teacher got em!

Have a great day!

Photos

This guy was my twin on Friday with our matching shirts, so we took a selfie!

Thompson Class News April 14
We survived district checkpoints last week.  Ask your student how they did.  Starting this week we are having a canned food drive to benefit Mesquite Social Services.  It will run until Friday April 25th.  Any non-perishable items are welcome, except for those in glass containers!  The second grade class with the most items receives extra time in the bounce house on Play Day. O how Ms. Thompson LOVES bounce houses, let’s bring in those canned goods!  Our research is going well, we will move to the internet to complete our research this week and then we will write up what we have learned.

This week in our learning

Math: place value/expanded form
